Whale Activist Poster

Ship strikes on whales kill thousands of whales every year with many deaths going unreported. Collisions are the leading cause of death worldwide for large whales. It is an issue that is not widely known or discussed and I wanted to portray that need for discussion and action in this personal poster design project.

Below is design process for creating the design.

  • Photoshop composite created with the two stock images.

  • The first design draft with a title, impact statement and a call to action. Ocean Way was a mock company created to get a sense of the poster layout for a company logo.

  • The same design but without the impact statement in the middle of the poster.

  • The same design but without the title.

  • The same design and layout but with an added effect of the number “20,000” in the impact statement submerged in water with a “blood in the water effect.”

  • A new design was made to realign the ship and whales on a collision path to the blood in the water, foreshadowing what is going to happen.

  • The new design, but this time leaving out the title and instead putting it at the beginning of the call to action at the bottom and making the impact statement the main draw. The “Protect Our Oceans” was placed if there was no logo. 

  • The final design is a real-case company mockup with a few changes to the bottom layout of the type and the dividing line’s omission.

Sipster App Design

This Project was created during my time as a student at NSCAD University in Nova Scotia. The design process goes through stages of brand identity, app wireframes and UI design mockups. The programs used were Adobe InDesign and Figma.
